What is the PowerPair Rebate by Duke Energy?

Exciting news alert! Duke PowerPair is here to offer a limited capacity pilot program for homeowners transitioning to solar + backup battery.

If you're a homeowner in North Carolina, you're in luck! You are eligible for installation incentives when you opt for a solar + a battery backup system installed only by one of Duke’s Trade Allies, which we at Sugar Hollow Solar are happy to be!

Understanding Duke Energy’s New Solar Rebate Program

The PowerPair program has two major components that allow you to save money on your solar and battery backup investment. These two incentives can combine for a total of $9,000 off of your install, so let’s explore what they are, and how they work.

You can get rebates from Duke to help cover the cost of your equipment:

For solar panels, it's $0.36 per watt, up to 10 kW, which means a maximum of $3,600 per home.
For battery storage, it's $400 per kilowatt-hour, up to 13.5 kWh, which means up to $5,400 per home.

NOTE: If your system sends excess power back to the grid, it shouldn't go over 20 kW at any point.

All Duke PowerPair clients will have 2 options for participation:

Group A: You'll use time-of-use rates and have control over your battery, Duke will only have monitoring access to your system to collect usage data.
Group B: You'll be on the Bridge Rate, and either Duke Energy or another company will control your battery.

Solar incentive programs often fill up fast. So Duke is using a Random Selection Process (RSP) to make it fair for everyone. The RSP for PowerPair will run for four weeks, from May 10 to June 7. You'll hear about your incentive reservation or waitlist status by no later than June 20.
