Shining a Light on Our Partner: WORX

""

Did you know that hands-on, career-connected learning can transform education and empower students for the future? Our Partners, the WORX Project is reshaping education beyond boundaries by combining CTE, STEAM, and SEL into an experiential learning model that’s anything but boring. Their innovative programs support any kid in the public school systems in Buncombe County that is ready to learn differently.

We’re proud to partner with WORX, supporting their mission to give students real-world skills, creative problem-solving experiences, and opportunities to explore careers in ways traditional classrooms often can’t. Together, we’re helping students in our community thrive, while showing how collaboration between local organizations can make a lasting impact.

“Through this opportunity, I’ve been able to gain hands-on insight into sustainability and clean energy projects that I never imagined I’d be a part of.”

-Alijah Walker,
WORX + Land of Sky Go Places Program Participant, Summer 2025

Why Sugar Hollow Solar Aligns with the WORX Project:

At Sugar Hollow Solar, we believe in the power of hands-on learning, collaboration, and building a stronger, more resilient community. That’s why we’re proud to partner with the WORX Project, an innovative program reshaping education through experiential, career-connected learning.

Our collaboration with WORX goes beyond words. In response to Hurricane Helene, the WORX Program coordinated a donation of 30 Canadian Solar panels and two Tesla batteries, and Sugar Hollow Solar was honored to serve as the installation partner. Through this project, youth participants from WORX’s Go Places Program gained real-world experience in Sales, Operations, Marketing, and Installation—seeing firsthand what it takes to bring clean energy projects to life.

Since our founding in 2010, Sugar Hollow Solar has been committed to advancing energy independence and sustainable living in Western North Carolina. Partnering with WORX allows us to combine that mission with workforce development, empowering young people with practical skills, professional connections, and insight into sustainable careers. Together, we’re helping students, families, and our community thrive—one solar project at a time.

Community Commitment:

With over 100 Google Reviews and Voted Best Place to Work by Best of AVL 2023, we are proud to prioritize the wellbeing of our staff and community. As a living wage certified company, we provide our staff with a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, 401k, and paid time off.

Partnership with Amicus Solar Cooperative:

As the 75th member-owner of Amicus Solar Cooperative, a certified B-Corporation, and Public Benefit Corporation focused on raising up local companies upholding the client's best interest first, along with social and environmental performance. Unlike national solar companies, we understand the specific needs and challenges of our region and can ensure personalized service and attention to detail.

Innovation and Leadership:

Since our inception in 2010, we've transformed into the largest local solar panel and battery backup installation company in Western North Carolina and Upstate South Carolina. What sets us apart is our commitment to owning the entire process. Unlike many others, we don't use subcontractors for our installation work. This hands-on approach ensures seamless communication from the design phase to the installation, leaving less room for errors. We prioritize quality installations, exceeding minimum code requirements because it's not just about meeting standards—it's about setting them. After all, we're not just installing systems; we're servicing our own, and that's a responsibility we take seriously.
